UTC 1 vs Universitario 1 match recap: A draw to close 2022

by J.P. Devetori

Universitario wraps up 2022 with a draw vs UTC in what was a very limited performance. Coming into this match missing important players like Aldo Corzo, Luis Urruti, Alexander Succar, and ‘Chiquitin’ Quintero, Universitario couldn’t propel anything offensively to win today.

Guillermo Larios scored the lone goal for the “U” which he has done before when he plays in matches like these when the “U” has many players out, he steps up every time. The player who displayed a great performance today was Diego Romero. Romero made a tremendous save in the 1st half that could’ve been a UTC goal. In the 2nd half, the “U” lacked everything on playmaking, solid defense, and questionable substitutions. All the troubles led to a UTC goal by Hideyoshi Arakaki in the 58th minute. Compagnucci made late substitutions and had a couple debuts like Franco Navarro and Jose Lopez. Navarro had to be subbed out due to injury later on in the match. The key absences really made a difference in today’s match but the rise of Larios and Romero should draw attention for the “U” coming into 2023.

It was a long and rough year for the “U” both on and off the field. The last month brought positive results and luckily the “U” qualified to a CONMEBOL tournament (Sudamericana) for 2023. 2023 needs to be a high improvement year and there will be drastic changes coming up. We have a couple months for all to happen as the 2023 season begins on January 14th. Y DALE U!
