Sport Boys vs Universitario match preview: Eyes on 3 in a row

by J.P. Devetori

Universitario heads to Callao for a match vs Sport Boys with eyes on extending their winning streak to 3. After having one of the best performances of the year, the “U” seeks to keep the streak going and confidence are at a high. The only downside of this match is the absence of Alexander Succar who will be serving a double yellow card suspension. There is also speculation on whether the match will be played due to Sport Boys’ lack of payment to the Peruvian Football Federation. Shall the match play on, let’s see what does the “U” need to do to win today.

With Succar out for the match today, Universitario has 2 options: Have a 4-5-1 formation with Andy Polo at the top or keep the 4-4-2 formation but have Joseph Valladolid at the top alongside Polo. Valladolid have played a couple matches for the “U” and has been displaying great promise. This would be a great opportunity for him to grow as a player. It is all up to Compagnucci in making today’s lineup vs Sport Boys.

Sport Boys have displayed a rocky season. They have been winning some, losing some throughout 2022 and last match they drew away vs Ayacucho, the worst club this year in Liga 1. With the current financial problems they face, there is a possible chance they won’t show up today. Let’s just see what happens.

Kickoff will be at 3:45pm Peru time (4:45 ET, 1:45 PT) at the Estadio Miguel Grau in Callao.
