Universitario vs Barcelona SC match preview: Let the Libertadores rumble begin!

by J.P. Devetori

Universitario heads to Guayaquil, Ecuador in a Copa Libertadores showdown vs Barcelona SC. The “U” is coming off a disappointing loss vs Carlos Stein and they will have to go thru another away match, this time for the Copa Libertadores. The “U” will soon have home field for a whole week as they host Cesar Vallejo in match day 4 of Liga 1 and hosting Barcelona SC in the second leg of the Libertadores.

What the “U” needs to focus on is taking advantage of the less experienced Barcelona squad. Despite reaching to the semifinals of last season’s Copa Libertadores, Barcelona is heading into the second stage without many key players from last season. Most of them left due to transfers and whatnot but the biggest absence is their veteran star, the Argentine-born Ecuadorian Damián Diaz, who is out of both legs due to card suspension. With many crema fans in Guayaquil to support the team, the “U” needs to use the advantage of the missing Barca stars and put the result in their favor.

The “U” however is heading into this without Alberto “Chiquitin” Quintero who is also serving a card suspension, going to miss both legs. Hernan Novick is also not with the team due to injury as well as Jose Murrugarra.

Kickoff will be at 7:30pm, Crema Tribune on Youtube will not be able to stream the match tonight but will be able to on Sunday vs UCV.
