Universitario 2 vs Ayacucho 1 match recap: 3 points earned

by J.P. Devetori

Universitario defeated last place Ayacucho 2-1 at the Estadio Monumental in comeback style after falling behind early Saturday night. Like most matches, the “U” falls behind early and fail to even the score. It is always like a common weakness when the cremas fall behind early. It changed completely on Saturday night with a comeback win that took 90 minutes to achieve.

Alexander Succar almost scored early in the match after receiving a perfect cross from Andy Polo. Hector Salazar from Ayacucho scored during a corner kick to give them a 0-1 lead in the 26th minute. Federico Alonso answered back 4 minutes later with his own corner kick header goal to even up the score. The energy was much needed for the cremas to stay alive in the match and for the hunt to qualify for a CONMEBOL tournament. Succar was called for offsides after the cremas put a shot to the back of the net.

Second half was promising after constant shots on goal especially by Hernan Novick. Novick has been absent for most of the season and seeing him attempt shots on goal is a good sign. With 15 minutes remaining in the match, Piero Quispe delivered a great chip pass to Succar who scored the go ahead goal and the “U” kept the lead and won the match in front of the crema fans.

It was a much needed win and a confidence booster heading into the clasico match this Sunday. Next match will be against our arch rivals in Matute this Sunday.
