Universitario wins their 1st match of the Clausura with an emphatic 4-0 victory vs Universidad San Martin. Many key offensive players stepped up for this victory such as Alex Valera, Federico Alonso, Jordan Guivin (in his debut!), and Alexander Succar scoring the goals today. Defense improved today as well. It was a regular all-around dominant team victory for the “U”.
Many shots on goal happened in the 1st half with Quispe making solid chances while ‘Chiquitin’ Quintero made a weak shot right to the USM goalkeeper Solis. Valera scored the 1st goal during the closing minutes of the 1st half with a penalty goal. The 1st half had the “U” controlling the game with dominating possession but the flaws were that the cremas failed to capitalize on their shots. As the 2nd half began, the “U” returned to dominating possession and saw their improvement on scoring. Alonso scored after receiving a shot intended for a goal but he caught on the way and made his own shot that snuck pass the USM goalkeeper. A few minutes later, Andy Polo made a pass intended for ‘Chiquitin’ but rebounded to Guivin who scored a rocket that took a little deflection off a USM defender and it sealed in for the 3rd crema goal. Succar scored off a header to make it 4-0 “U” and lock the match for good.
It was a very improved match for the “U” than the previous match up vs Cantolao. Dominating possession, better defense, and better execution. It the “U” until the 2nd half to improve on their scoring execution, something that they need to improve as they go into match day 3.
Their next match is also at home in the Estadio Monumental vs Carlos Stein, a revenge opportunity for the cremas. LETS GO U!
