Universitario vs Alianza Atletico match preview: Let’s keep going
by J.P. Devetori
Universitario is hosting 1st place team Alianza Atletico at the Estadio Monumental in what is a very important game for the “U”. The cremas are down 5 points (2 games) behind 1st place Alianza Atletico and win would cut the deficit to 2 points (1 game). Also, Sport Huancayo needs to lose or tie vs Municipal in order for the game plan to stay 2 points (1 game) behind 1st place to work. The season is halfway over and there is no more time to waste, the U must win today and rely on Huancayo to lose to stay alive in the Apertura race.
Universitario is heading into this match with Hernan Novick on the injury shelf again while Piero Quispe is listed as questionable. Today is an opportunity for Rodrigo Vilca to make a statement and fill that gap in the midfield.
Alianza Atletico is coming off 3 straight wins and the “U” must be the spoiler today. The defense needs to be vigilant on any trick plays Atletico might pull and the crema offense needs to be quick and smart each time they get possession so they can deliver scoring opportunities. This is a match where the “U” needs to score early and often, not late in the game.
Kickoff is at 3:30 Peru time (4:30 Atlantic, 1:30 Pacific) at the majestic Estadio Monumental. Post match analysis and recap to be posted here tomorrow as well as on the Lolo Worldwide Podcast, the official podcast of Crema Tribune.
