Universitario vs Sport Boys match preview: An opportunity to bounce back

by J.P. Devetori

Universitario will face Sport Boys at the Estadio Monumental in front of approximately 22,000 fans. This will be Jorge ‘Coco’ Araujo’s first match as manager of Universitario after taking over the position following Alvaro Gutierrez’s firing last week. The “U” seeks to bounce back after a horrible loss and there are interesting topics heading into today.

First, the roster for today’s match included the absences of Hernan Novick and Federico Alonso. Neither of them are injured but after the altercation incident at Campo Mar earlier this week, both men are out for today’s match. Every key player is healthy and ready to play as well as the return of Rodrigo Vilca from red card suspension.

Sport Boys is coming off a win from last week vs Ayacucho and they seek to continue against the “U” this afternoon. ‘Coco’ Araujo is praised for his managerial work for the Universitario reserves team and will bring his philosophy to the 1st team. The cremas need to play with toughness by fighting for possession and play smart by dominated possession and create scoring plays.

Kickoff is at 3:30pm Peru time (4:30 ET, 1:30 PT) at the Estadio Monumental. Post match recap will be posted here tomorrow and the post-match analysis will be on the Crema Tribune podcast, Lolo Worldwide, on Youtube tomorrow.
