Universitario returns home to play their first Liga 1 match in the legendary Estadio Monumental in almost 2 years. After coming off a sloppy but dominant 3-0 over Cantolao, the “U” is eyeing to improve for their match vs USM. Universitario is also playing their first match under new manager Alvaro Gutierrez. Gutierrez is bringing good optimism to the club, the optimism we haven’t seen since when Gregorio Perez was around. Let’s see how the “U” can turn things around with Gutierrez and remain unbeatable.
After a sloppy performance vs Cantolao, the “U” is now led by a very experienced strategic manager Alvaro Gutierrez and his crema debut alongside playing at home in front of the greatest fans in Peru, the cards are in Universitario’s favor tonight. Tonight’s starting XI is possibly going to be the same as last match while Hernan Novick remains out and other notable inactive players are Ivan Santillan, Jorge Murrugarra, and Alfonso Barco.
San Martin is making their season debut after being relegated last season but a TAS ruling has helped them return to the first division. Despite their return to the first division, they are without a notable star due to selling most of their stars over the fact that they were relegated. Barco was one of those USM stars that were sold during the offseason.
Notable statistics between the “U” and USM is that the cremas have scored at least one goal in the last 11 of 12 matches while winning 6 of those 12 matches and drawing 5 times and losing once to the USM.
Kickoff starts at 7pm in the mythical Estadio Monumental. Live match broadcast will finally happen in the Crema Tribune Youtube and a post match recap will be published after the match.
