Bolivia vs Peru Match Preview: World Cup Qualifiers October 10

by J.P. Devetori

Peru faces 9th place Bolivia in match day 5 (rescheduled from March) of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers. This is their first match against each other in the World Cup qualifiers and the last time they faced was in the 2019 Copa America group stage where Peru won 3-1. Bolivia hosts today with kickoff time at 3pm Peru time (4pm Atlantic, 1pm Pacific).

Peru is coming into this match with many injury absences such as Paolo Guerrero, Raul Ruidiaz, Yordy Reyna and Renato Tapia. The removal of Guerrero and Ruidiaz brings in the call-ups of Horacio Calcaterra and Oslimg Mora. Bolivia doesn’t have any notable absences coming into this match.

Peru must start the right players such as Raziel Garcia and Santiago Ormeño in this match due to their experiences in high altitudes. Garcia could fill in for Flores and Ormeño could fill in for the injured Guerrero to start the match. An early goal or two could seal us another victory this week and get closer to a qualification spot.

The results needed to help Peru boost closer to a qualification spot are: Venezuela victory (over Ecuador), Brazil victory (over Colombia), Argentina victory (over Uruguay), Chile draw (with Paraguay). Those results puts Peru up to 6th place and within goal differential behind Colombia for 5th place and 2 points behind for 3rd and 4th place.
