Universitario vs Univ. Cesar Vallejo match recap: Another thrilling victory
by J.P. Devetori
Universitario captured their first win vs UCV since 2019 and they did it in pure dominance. U third string goalkeeper Diego Romero, who took over the absent Jose Carvallo and Patrick Zubczuk, assisted Alex Valera with a long pass to score the first goal in the first 5 minutes of the match. UCV barely had any shots on goal in the first half since the Cremas dominated possession. Valera added another goal with little time remaining in the first half with a little chip shot over UCV goalkeeper Carlos Gardo’s head. The first half showed that the U didn’t miss a single beat offensively and defensively.
The second half was different however, with UCV taking over the possession but they never got any goal out of it. Don Gregorio made good substitution moves in the second half by bringing in the strong Alexander Succar, the returning Hernan Novick, and the improved Rafael Guarderas. After a long injury absence, Novick made sure everyone knew he was back by scoring during stoppage time to seal the victory for the Cremas.
For the 3rd straight match, Universitario dominated all-around from start to finish. The only weakness however is allowing the opponent to gain possession throughout the 2nd half. Luckily our defense is stronger and a lot more focused when defending man to man. A great result entering international break and the U will rest, heal, and prepare when we return on Monday October 18th vs Binacional at 1:15pm Peru time (2:15 Atlantic, 11:15 Pacific).
