On this day: The inauguration of Estadio Teodoro “Lolo” Fernandez (July 20th, 1952)

Estadio Teodoro “Lolo” Fernandez was inaugruated in July 20th 1952, 69 years ago today. The stadium served as the main home for Universitario de Deportes and played their inaugural match vs Universidad de Chile where they won 4-2 and Lolo Fernandez delivered a hat-trick. The “U” later moved to Estadio Monumental in 2000. Estadio “Lolo” Fernandez now serves as a football academy for the club’s members and hosts games for the youth teams such as U América Cochahuayco which currently participates in Peru’s Second Division league.
